Old Carpet Factory Sound Art Residency

Old Carpet Factory Sound Art Residency uses sound as a research tool to engage with Hydra’s cultural memory, architecture, and living environment. Situated within an 18th‑century historical mansion that once functioned as a carpet‑weaving factory and today operates as a recording studio, the program invites sound artists to work with field recordings, voice, experimental composition, and site‑specific acoustics.

The program is guided by Mnemosyne Projects’ mission to conserve and activate authentic sites of memory through contemporary practice, the residency frames sound as a method of archival inquiry, allowing artists to trace social histories, natural rhythms, and everyday gestures, while reaffirming the Old Carpet Factory’s role as a space where heritage, technology, and artistic experimentation converge.
