Nicola Costantino (b. 1964, Rosario, Argentina) is one of Latin America's most influential contemporary artists, internationally recognized for a multidisciplinary practice that spans sculpture, installation, photography, video, fashion, and performance. Throughout her career, she has challenged conventional boundaries between art, the body, technology, nature, and consumption, developing a distinctive visual language that combines technical virtuosity with conceptual rigor.
Working across diverse media and materials, Costantino investigates themes of identity, desire, transformation, mortality, and corporeality. Her works often blur the distinctions between attraction and discomfort, beauty and abjection, confronting viewers with complex questions surrounding the ethics of representation and the construction of the self. Drawing from fashion, science, anatomy, and popular culture, she continuously reimagines the body as a site of both vulnerability and invention.
Since emerging in the 1990s, Costantino has exhibited extensively at major museums, biennials, and institutions worldwide. She represented Argentina at the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013 with Rapsodia Inconclusa, a large-scale project inspired by Eva Perón. Her work is held in leading public and private collections internationally and has established her as a defining figure in contemporary Argentine art.
PROJECTS
Group exhibition reconsiders Argentina’s surrealist artistic legacy from the unstable terrain of the contemporary world, displacing the human as its privileged subject and tracing agency across bodies, technologies, ecologies, matter, other forms of life, and invisible forces.
