Dimitrios Antonitsis
Dimitrios Antonitsis (b. Athens, 1966) is a multimedia artist whose body of work encompasses sculpture, photography and film. His projects navigate between the realm of familiar and unfamiliar, probing the fluidity and ambiguity of identity with a distinctive and thought-provoking approach.
Known for his innovative and boundary-defying experimentation with materials, Antonitsis work invites audiences to reconsider the intricate relationships between objects, environments, and human interactions. His recent creations incorporate symbolic forms evocative of ancient artifacts, seamlessly bridging the past and the present. These works explore themes of memory, cultural continuity, and emotion, while questioning the linearity of human achievements. Antonitsis's works have been acquired by prominent public and private collections, including the National Museum of Contemporary Art and the DESTE Foundation in Athens, MoMus in Thessaloniki, Museo per la Fotografia in Turin, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Pittsburgh, and the Benedict Taschen Collection in Cologne. Additional holdings include the Nicoletta Fiorucci Collection in Italy, the John Waters Collection and Brice Marden Collection in New York. His work was also exhibited at the Chelsea Art Museum in New York, an institution that has since closed.
