Mnemosyne Projects Presents
Hydra Island, Greece
June 20 - September 7, 2025
The storied past and singular essence of Hydra Island form the heart of Hydra: Island in the Sound project. Though largely absent from the grand narratives of Greek Antiquity, Hydra carves out a legacy all its own, one shaped by the interplay of water and stone, myth and memory. Once known as Hydrea (Υδρέα), its name derived from the life-giving wells that first nurtured its existence, the island turned into a a barren unyielding rock that now defines its landscape.
Through evocative art installations, thought-provoking exhibitions, and illuminating discussions, Mnemosyne Projects breathes new life into the mythology of the place. Each newly commissioned artwork created exclusively for the project becomes a vessel through which Hydra’s spirit is reimagined, inviting us to witness the island’s metamorphosis in the language of art.
