Nocturne: Posthuman Dreams, Myths, and the Invisible

Little Red Door Club
Villa Crespo, Buenos Aires

The group exhibition reexamines Argentina's surrealist artistic legacy through a contemporary lens. Curated by Ekaterina Juskowski, it brings together works by some of the country's most significant historical and contemporary artists.

Buenos Aires, October 2026 — What happens when the familiar becomes strange, and that which ordinarily remains unseen begins to acquire presence? This question lies at the heart of Nocturne: Posthuman Dreams, Myths, and the Invisible, an exhibition presented by Mnemosyne Projects from October 31 to December 13, 2026, at Little Red Door Club in Buenos Aires' Villa Crespo district.

Conceived by curator, writer, and cultural critic Ekaterina Juskowski, founder of Mnemosyne Projects, the exhibition revisits Argentina's surrealist legacy through the concerns of the present moment. Rather than approaching surrealism solely as a historical movement, Nocturne presents it as a way of experiencing reality, unsettling established certainties, and exploring what lies beyond ordinary perception.

The exhibition features works by Roberto Aizenberg, Joaquín Aras, Valentín Asprella Lozano, Jonathan Barberi, Juan Batlle Planas, Nicola Costantino, Corcho Rodríguez, Juan de Dios Mena, Max Gómez Canle, Luisita Photo Studio, Jorge Macchi, Alejo Musich, Maximiliano Ocampo Salinas, Andrés Piña, and Francisca Rey.

The project has been realized with the support of Piedras Galería, Hache Galería, Ruth Benzacar Galería de Arte, W-Galería, Francisco Traba Galería de Arte, and MACA – Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Atchugarry, whose contributions from their respective collections have made the exhibition possible.

Bringing together diverse artistic languages, sensibilities, and historical moments, the exhibition invites visitors to reconsider the relationships between bodies, technologies, nature, matter, and the invisible forces that shape our existence.

The Night as a Territory of Exploration

Traditionally, the nocturne has been associated with atmosphere, mystery, and the emotional dimensions of the night. In Nocturne, the concept acquires a philosophical significance: the night becomes a transitional territory where familiar categories lose their stability and new possibilities of interpretation emerge.

From this perspective, the exhibition proposes a shift away from the anthropocentric worldview that positions the human as the primary subject of experience. Instead, it explores alternative forms of existence and relationships with the world, tracing agency across bodies, technologies, ecologies, matter, and unseen forces.

Rather than reconstructing a chronological history of Argentine surrealism, Nocturne establishes unexpected connections between artists and works from different periods. The result is an invitation to discover new dimensions within familiar works and to situate contemporary artistic practices within a broader intellectual and cultural tradition deeply rooted in Argentine culture.

A Dialogue Between Argentina and the International Art Scene

Nocturne marks the Buenos Aires debut of Mnemosyne Projects, the international curatorial platform founded by Ekaterina Juskowski in 2024 on the Greek island of Hydra. Juskowski's engagement with Argentine art spans more than a decade and stems from a longstanding interest in artistic practices that challenge the boundaries between the real and the imaginary. Combined with a profound admiration for Argentina's intellectual and cultural traditions, this interest finds expression in Nocturne as an opportunity to foster new dialogues between Argentine artistic heritage and the international contemporary art world.

“Argentine art has always fascinated me for its ability to blur the boundaries between the familiar and the strange, between reality and imagination. For that reason, presenting Nocturne in Buenos Aires carries a special significance. It is a privilege to bring together some of the most singular and compelling voices in Argentine art and to share with audiences a perspective on a tradition I deeply admire. Through this exhibition, we hope to celebrate that richness, create new connections, and, above all, invite visitors to discover something they may never have seen in quite the same way before,” says Ekaterina Juskowski, curator of the exhibition and founder of Mnemosyne Projects.

The exhibition seeks to introduce Argentine artistic heritage to new international audiences while offering local visitors a fresh perspective on artists and works that already occupy a central place within the country's cultural imagination. At the same time, the exhibition reflects the philosophy of Mnemosyne Projects, whose curatorial practice explores the intersections between contemporary art, cultural memory, and place, understanding heritage not as a static legacy but as a living resource open to new interpretations

An Intimate Encounter with Art

Presented at Little Red Door Club, Nocturne proposes a mode of engagement centered on contemplation, conversation, and the exchange of ideas. Following the opening, the exhibition will be accessible exclusively by appointment through guided visits led by the curator. Each visit will provide historical, philosophical, and artistic context for the works on view, encouraging deeper engagement and new readings. The experience will be complemented by a program of special events designed to foster dialogue, reflection, and cultural exchange.

“Our collaboration with Mnemosyne Projects emerged from a shared belief in the power of art to build meaningful connections across geographies, disciplines, and communities. We are delighted to present Nocturne at a particularly important moment for Little Red Door Club as we move toward the official launch of the club later this year. As a space whose community includes members and collaborators from around the world, we are particularly interested in supporting initiatives that expand the international visibility of Argentine art and create opportunities for cultural exchange. This collaboration reflects the values that Little Red Door Club seeks to cultivate,” says Belén Delaney, Director of Little Red Door Club.
